Beginning overnight on 27th February, Primecare's Dudley and Scarborough out of hours service went live with NHS Pathways, following intensive training with our call-handlers and clinicians. Primecare is carefully monitoring the impact and benefits of NHS Pathways with a view to extending the assessment system across all our urgent care services.
Staff from The Green Dental Practice, Dines Green, Worcester are this week taking their services out to the local YMCA. On Wednesday 29th February, the practice manager, lead dentist and dental nurse will be staffing a mobile dental unit for the benefit of over 70 YMCA residents.

During the day, people staying at or visiting the YMCA will be able to have a dental health check with the dentist and given the opportunity to register with The Green Dental Practice for their routine dental care.

The Green Dental practice provides NHS dental treatment and is currently able to register new patients. In addition, the practice is opening a new dental practice in the St Johns area of Worcester in March 2012 with additional capacity for NHS dental treatment.

Sam Paterson, practice manager at The Green Dental Practice, said:
“We’re pleased to be able to help improve people’s oral health by taking our services out in the mobile dental unit. We will be able to provide convenient access to NHS dental care for people who may not routinely visit a dentist and will be on site at the YMCA between 10am and 3pm.”

Families and individuals wishing to register for NHS dental treatment at either the current Dines Green site or the new premises in St Johns should contact the dental practice on 01905 426311 or www.dinesgreendental.co.uk

The dental practice is currently open 9am until 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am – 2pm on Saturdays.
Primecare's Bridge Park dental practice in Sandwell is marking its first birthday with an open day for local residents.

To celebrate the first year of opening, the Bridge Park dental practice is throwing its doors open between 1pm and 5pm on Saturday 18th February.

Everyone is welcome to come along and meet the dental team, have a tour of the dental surgery and get advice and information on looking after their teeth. Special activities will be on hand for children who can learn to brush their teeth with the practice’s interactive dinosaur!

Many people are not aware of the importance of visiting the dentist regularly. NHS dental care is even free for children and people on certain benefits so it’s worth finding out how we can help you.

“I hope that many people will come along to meet us on 18th February and find out what’s on offer. We take great care over all of our patients no matter what your needs are and currently have spaces available for new NHS patients. You can be assured of a warm welcome from all the dental team.”

Primecare clinicians and call-handlers are currently being trained in NHS Pathways which is due to be implemented in two of Primecare's out of hours services later this month. NHS Pathways is the clinical system that is currently being used in NHS 111 services. Rolling out NHS Pathways in parts of our out of hours service, means we are fully able to model the impact of this system on patient care and referrals.

GPs in Berkshire are calling for all call handlers who will be talking to patients in the new NHS 111 service to have CRB checks - www.pulsetoday.co.uk/

Across all of Primecare’s services, including out of hours, everyone has a full CRB check. We think that people who are dealing with patients face to face, even those who have no direct contact, but have access to patient information should also be CRB checked. Patients and customers can be assured that Primecare provides safe, high quality services, and we will continue to do so as we develop provision of NHS 111.
As part of preparation for NHS 111, Primecare has signed an agreement with NHS Pathways and will begin piloting the system in parts of our service in early 2012. NHS Pathways is the system of choice for NHS 111 and the Primecare pilot will enable detailed modelling to understand the impact of NHS Pathways on our current services.
